Despite the wet, dreary weather, today really was a perfect day. I slept in late, had lunch at the world’s best bakery (I had a very yummy roast pumpkin, pancetta and blue cheese tart), browsed a antique store (and found vintage 60’s porn), wandered around the botanical garden in the rain, and then spent the afternoon playing cards and sipping Cherry Max with my hubby.

Now I’m home, browsing the web, and getting more and more excited about my dressmaking class. The class is going to teach how to sew from a pattern, but I’m also hoping to use these skills to re-work vintage clothes. I’ve always loved shopping at op shops, where I often find beautiful patterns, fabrics and pieces that just aren’t  … qute right. I’d love to have the sewing skills to make new things out of old things. I’ve recently very inspired by the glamourai, which is a fashion blog but I’m more inspired by the selfmade jewllery, and forest bound, for the beautiful bags made by vintage materials.

I’m still hiding from the cold and not really doing much except for watching lots of MasterChef Australia and downloading music. (Itunes free single of the week is Passion Pit’s Moth’s Wing – it’s worth listening to!)

This weekend should be good though, Friday night I’m going out for dinner and then a theatre show compliments of work, and then Monday is a public holiday. Unfortunately, it is suppose to be cold and rainy all weekend, but this could lead to a nice cozy pub day on Sunday?

Due to a bit of hemisphere hopping, I havne’t had to suffer through a winter since 2007 … which has made me soft! I think I might be suffering a bit of SAD – I can deal with the cold but not the darkness. I’m pretty low energy at the moment and I’m spending most of my non-work time sleeping, so excuse my lack of blog posts lately.

To try and combat this I’ve signed up for an adult education class that I’m really excited about – dressmaking! The class meets on Wednesday nights so I figure it will give me something to look forward too and help me get through the week.

On a completely unrelated but happy note, I bought some gorgeous vintage boots on ebay. Fashion is the only thing I like about winter – boots, layers, scarves and coats. I’ll leave you wiht my own little bit of shoe porn:

I can’t believe it! There were 5 offers made but they accepted ours!

Hopefully there are no problems with the building inspection and/or finance.

I had an incredibly long day at work today, so that’s all I can be bothered to write for now!

We found a unit and have a put an offer in, but unfortunately the vendor is selling via a set sale so we won’t know if our offer has been accepted until next Monday at the earliest.

I’m also another year older – 28! I guess birthdays are a time for reflection. When I look back over my life I’m very happy with all that I’ve done. Sometimes I can’t even believe it has been my life! Having said that, I’m very restless at the moment.

I’ve been very good with my money lately because I’ve found an affordable block of land in a decent location. In order to reduce temptation I’ve been a bit of a hermit, I’ve only been leaving the house to go to work and to get groceries – nothing exciting!  To occupy myself I’ve been doing a lot of virtual shopping, browsing other people’s closets on Chictopia, and discovering new music via some awesome free podcasts (NPR: Live Concerts from All Songs Considered & KEXP Song of the Day).

I’ve been a really lazy blogger lately. My work is taking over my life a bit lately, but I’m getting through it.

This week I was back to work after the summer holidays and … I was actually really glad to be back. The first few days of holidays were fun, going to the beach, long drives, picnics … but slowly … a pattern developed. Before I knew it I was sleeping in and hardly getting off the couch. I’m not use to having time off without having something planned to do! My mind turns to mush. Not sure how to explain it, but I seem to be more productive when I have a lot going on. Strange that…

What?!? I swear that since I’ve moved to the southern hemisphere Christmas just sneaks up on me!  The past few weeks I have been consumed with my new job, my new car (necessary for my new job because I’ll be on the road a lot), and lots of almost Christmas drinkies! I’m a bit more relaxed at the moment because friday was my last day of work until Jan 5. I’m very happy to report that summer weather has finally kicked in (after a very chilly start to the season) and hubby and I celebrated by spending yesterday at the beach.

Not much else planned at the moment, just enjoying the lovely weather and not doing much! I hunted down a used copy of Singles for only $4 (to help feed my 90’s nostalgia) so I’ll probably watch that later, maybe do a bit more virtual shopping (craving American Appareal at the moment ), go for a walk or organise my iTunes … life is tough!
